Giant's Castle is a rugged and remote landmark known for its  dramatic rock massif landscape. It gets its name from the shape of the peaks and escarpment which gives the illusion of a sleeping giant. In 1903, it was proclaimed a reserve mainly for the protection of the dwindling eland population of the Drakensberg. Today, Giant's Castle is a home for over 600 eland, but also for reedbucks and many spices of birds such as the bearded vulture. This landmark is also known for the bushman rock art that can be find in its old caves. There are many hiking opportunities offering spectacular and dramatic panorama views. From few hours walk to days walk, Giant's Castle counts more than twenty hikes which suit all levels, amateur, professional or serious hiker.
